Comtech EF Data Supplies Mobile Backhaul Equipment for Network Expansion in Africa

Tempe, Ariz.,  June 2, 2014--Comtech EF Data has been awarded US$ 1.0 million in follow-on equipment orders from a Mobile Network Operator (MNO) in Africa in the three months to the end of April. The equipment will be used for a network upgrade that will transport and optimize voice and data communications, and facilitate subscriber growth across the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modems and compatible CRS-170A 1:1 Modem Redundancy Switches were specified in the order. The CDM-625 combines advanced Forward Error Correction such as VersaFEC and Low Density Parity Check codes with the revolutionary DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression. DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier, based on patented "Adaptive Cancellation" technology, allows transmit and receive carriers of a duplex link to share the same transponder space. This combination of technologies enables users to minimize OPEX and CAPEX, and maximize both throughput and availability without additional transponder resources.

Also ordered was the AccessGate RAN optimization systems, by Comtech EF Data's subsidiary, Memotec. The AccessGate systems employ a unique, patented set of aggregation and bandwidth optimization techniques that enable MNOs to maximize network utilization, facilitate rapid expansion and reduce operating costs for mobile networks.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., commented on the order, "This operator teamed with Comtech EF Data to support its network upgrade and regional growth based on our proven ability to enable sustainable and profitable service expansion without quality degradation."
