M2M, IoT, Cloud Apps on the Agenda for GVF-EMP Oilfield Connectivity 2019

London, UK, April 10, 2019 — The GVF-EMP Partnership has announced preliminary details of speakers for the next event in the partnership’s portfolio of market vertical focused satellite communications programmes – Oilfield Connectivity 2019: The Next Generation Digital Oilfield.

Taking place in the principal hub of Europe’s offshore oil industry, the City of Aberdeen, the programme will examine latest developments in the communications technologies, services and applications that are mission critical for the exploration and production connectivity ecosystem.

Martin Jarrold, Chief of International Programme Development with GVF, who will chair the conference, said “With Brent crude currently around the US$70 per barrel mark and with new oil deposits still being discovered – a recent example being the northern North Sea Viking Graben find that is projected to yield an estimated 15-50 million barrels – resulting from the fusion of improved offshore efficiencies and reducing development costs together with associated heightened investment confidence levels, the upstream industry continues its progress towards enhanced networks digitisation and therefore an ever-greater reliance on satellite-based services.”

He noted that “The Wood Mackenzie forecast that energy companies will spend a total of US$425bn in upstream sector investment in 2019, up from US$400bn in 2016-17, is just one of the data points that comprise the backdrop to our latest Aberdeen dialogue.”

Oilfield Connectivity 2019 will be held on 15th May at the Marriott Hotel at Overton Circle in the village of Dyce and will comprise a series of presentation and panel discussion sessions featuring speakers from oil companies and academia, together with satellite technology solutions vendors and service providers. Supporting the 2019 programme are Corporate Sponsors Comtech EF Data, Hughes, Newtec, and iDirect, and Guest Sponsors C-COM Satellite Systems, Integrasys, and Marlink.

In alphabetical order of organization name, the current line-up of speakers features:
Nick Dawson, Drilling IT Programme Manager, British Petroleum; Drew Klein, Vice-President Sales & Marketing, C-COM Satellite Systems; Andy Lucas, Senior Vice-President, Operator Vertical, Comtech EF Data; Callum Norrie, Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence, Heriot-Watt University; Sebastien Couvet, EMEA Sales Manager, Integrasys; Mark Lambert, Vice-President, Business Development, Kratos; Mark Bennett, Sales Director, Marlink; Jean-Michel Rouylou, Head of Enterprise Market, Newtec; Martyn Curwen-Bryant, Sales Director, RazorSecure; Simon Gatty Saunt, Vice-President Sales EMEA, Fixed-Data, SES Networks; Robert Irvine, Global Account Manager, Energy, SpeedCast; Mike Manson, Sales Manager, Oil and Gas, Telenor Satellite; and, Alessandro Caranci, Senior Vice-President Satellite Communications, Telespazio.

Paul Stahl, Executive Director of EMP (Century 21 Communications) added, “The Next Generation Digital Oilfield principally relates to machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, IoT, and Applications in the Cloud. This, the Partnership’s 13thannual programme dedicated to communications in the upstream oil ecosystem, again brings to the market an ICT-oriented dialogue at the crucial interface of demand for ICT solutions by the energy vertical and the supply of those solutions by the satellite communications industry and it’s complimentary technology partners.” Stahl added, “Aberdeen’s hydrocarbons dialogue will additionally include the themes of big oil & big data, connectivity robustness, high throughput satellites, low earth orbit constellations, and cyber security.”

Following Oilfield Connectivity 2019 in the Partnership’s portfolio of events will be Cellular Backhaul 2019: Satellite and the 5G Journey. The programme, taking place on 13th June, will once again be embedded within the KNect365 5G Worldexhibition, the biggest 5G dedicated event in the World, at London’s ExCeL Centre.
