According to Adobe Digital Index's “Q2 Video Benchmark” report, online TV content viewed through these devices saw the biggest market share increase of all device types.

The worldwide Pay TV market is expected to surpass 920 million subscribers by the end of 2014. Overall, Pay TV average revenue per user (ARPU) is expected to drop slightly due to increasing price competition, but at a lower rate compared to the ARPU drop in 2013 according to ABI Research.

New research from Parks Associates finds more than 46 million households worldwide will subscribe to a 4K UHD pay-TV service by 2018. Pay-TV providers will deploy this service as a differentiator, especially among younger consumers who are more likely to use new pay-TV features, such as TV Everywhere and cloud DVR, but also have slightly lower subscription rates for pay-TV services. In the U.S., 82% of consumers 18-22 have a pay-TV subscription, compared to 87% among older consumers.

The latest research from Strategy Analytics' Connected Home Devices team, the Global Connected TV Device Tracker, shows that the number of connected TV devices installed globally reached just short of 500 million devices in Q2 2014, an increase of 7% over Q1. The research covers all connected TV devices such as smart TVs, smart blu-ray disc players, games consoles and digital media streamers.
