Research and Markets has announced the addition of Screen Digest’s new report "Mobile Market Monitor: TV H2 2008" to their offering.
Mobile TV is one of the content categories in mobile which has suffered the most from the economic downturn in Europe. Customers are reducing their spending as we go deeper into the economic crisis. Damaged confidence and the lack of financial commitment have delayed further DVB-H launches across Europe. Alternative solutions developed on existing standards and networks (e.g. DVB-T and Analogue TV) are emerging across the world and push the Free-To-Air (FTA) trend even further.
North America, on the contrary, has experienced consistent growth throughout 2008 due to the popularity smartphones and the emergence of dedicated mobile content delivery networks for mobile TV over 3G.
Highlights of the report include:
· European 3G mobile TV revenues accounted for only 1.2 per cent of total mobile data revenues (excluding messaging)
· 3G mobile TV adoption rates for Germany, Spain and the UK are all below 3 per cent.
· By 2012, 64 per cent of mobile TV subscribers will be watching mobile TV for free.
· From 2009 onward, the monthly ARPU for paid mobile TV services is expected to decrease by 0.50 Euro a year.
