Sub-Saharan Africa: 11% CAGR for Capacity Leased through 2024

Paris, France, April 2, 2015 - According to Euroconsult's newly released report, Prospects for Satellite Communications & Broadcasting in Africa, overall usage for satellite capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa increased at an 11% CAGR over 2009-2014 despite the spread of terrestrial fiber networks and the decrease of international trunking. Euroconsult further anticipates an 11% CAGR for capacity leased over the next decade, for a total of close to 200 Gbps of traffic flowing over satellite.

Digital Pay TV Revenues Rocket in Eastern Europe

London, UK, April 1, 2015--Despite the incessant gloomy economic and political news from the region, pay TV revenues in Eastern Europe will be 45% higher in 2020 (US$ 7,269 million) than in 2010 (US$ 5,029 million), according to Digital TV Research. However, the fifth edition of the Digital TV Eastern Europe Forecasts report states that increase will only be 17% between 2014 and 2020 – although this is still an increase of US$ 1 billion.  

Global Pay TV Subscriber Base to Surpass 1.1 Billion in 2020

Singapore, March 25, 2015--​According to ABI Research, the worldwide pay TV market grew at a steady rate of 4% in 2014 to reach 923.5 million subscribers. “Despite the growth in subscriber base, weak currency exchange rates resulted in a slower increase of pay TV market service revenue. Worldwide the pay TV market generated US$257 billion in 2014 and is expected to surpass 1.1 billion subscribers in 2020 with a CAGR 2.7%,” comments Jake Saunders, VP and Practice Director of Core Forecasting.

510 Smallsats to be Launched in the Next Five Years

Paris,France, February 26, 2015 - According to Euroconsult's newly released research titled Prospects for the Small Satellite Market, a total of 510 small satellites, or smallsats (meaning nanosats, cubesats, microsats and minisats) are to be launched in the next five years, a two-third increase in the average number of smallsats per year versus that of the past decade. This total includes 14 constellations of different sizes and capabilities that represent a total of 140 satellites.
