It's All About Content Delivery at IBC 2011

Amsterdam, September 15, 2011—This is not your  father’s IBC.  Like  most industry shows,  the IBC is evolving and it’s getting harder to distinguish traditionally broadcast-oriented shows like the IBC in Amsterdam and the NAB in Las Vegas with the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) and other shows dealing with content delivery and management.

Satellite 2011: The Satellite Industry is Well Positioned to Meet New Challenges

Washington, D.C., March 18, 2011-- The 30th anniversary edition of the Satellite show held in Washington, D.C. from March 14-17 was like a big coming out party for the industry. Having just survived one of the worst global recessions relatively unscathed,  the mood at the show was decidedly bullish.   Senior industry executives speaking at the conference were almost unanimously positive on the industry’s position yet they also recognize that there are still many challenges ahead.

“Over the Top” (OTT) Services Take Center Stage at CES 2011

Las Vegas, Nev., January 10,2011-- The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 6-9 was a dazzling, one can say  “over the top” way to start the new year (more on that later) for the broadcasting industry. The world’s largest consumer technology trade show, the CES was attended by over 140,000 industry professionals from over 80 countries.  No other industry show demonstrates the pulse of consumer demand for information and entertainment devices than the CES show.

The Cloud with the ‘Satellite‘ Lining

London, UK, December 20, 2010-As noted in my column last month, the program for the recent GVF Oil & Gas Communications conference in Kuala Lumpur included a session entitled Cloud Computing and Future Oil & Gas Industry Networking.  This was the first time the topic of the Cloud had been introduced to any of the GVF-EMP vertical market-focused series of conferences, though not the first time that a Cloud-related topic had been included in one of the GVF’s horizontal-market events – specifically the MENASAT Summit held at the time of the Satellite MENA exhibition during the first quarter of 2010, where satellite Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization was investigated from the point of view of improving bandwidth-usage efficiencies.
