Hispasat, the Spanish communications satellite operator from the Red Eléctrica Group, and Eurona, the Spanish multinational telecommunications firm, are implementing two pilot projects to promote digital transformation in the rural agrofood sector and to bridge the digital divide in the field through technologies like satellites and WiFi hotspots. The initiatives are being carried out in the provinces of Ávila and Alicante in collaboration with local farmers and ranchers.

Arab Satellite Communications Organization (ARABSAT) has today announced the signing of a contract between leading satellite service provider, Arabsat, Sudan-based VSAT service provider, Sudasat and global leader in IP-based satellite communications, ST Engineering iDirect.

The agreement will see the installation of a Newtec Dialog hub that will provide Internet services across Sudan on the Arabsat 6A Ka-band satellite, which was launched by a Falcon Heavy earlier this year and is dedicated to connecting the Middle East and African regions.

The Angolan company will utilize capacity on AMOS-17 primarily for cellular backhaul to better connect rural and low-density communities throughout the Southern African country.

On August 6, 2019,  AMOS-17 was successfully launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida.  The satellite is located at 17 degrees East where it covers the African continent, along with Europe, the Middle East and Asia. It is positioned right over central Africa, to optimize service in the region. 

Scheduled to be operational in November, AMOS-17 is the most advanced high-throughput satellite (HTS) to date, providing satellite communication services to Africa.
