Globecomm Systems, a leading global provider of managed network communication solutions, has announced a contract extension with Avanti to deploy satellite broadband services to thousands of businesses in South Africa.

Operating from Cape Town and Johannesburg, the international service provider will deploy Ka-band satellite connectivity to enterprise customers in RSA via Avanti’s HYLAS 2 satellite. The partnership will be based on the Hughes platform and will extend beyond South Africa later this year.

Digitaria International has selected Signalhorn to provide satellite communications services to passengers and crew aboard a fleet of 12 luxury vessels operated by a leading provider of shipboard travel in the Americas, Mediterranean and South African markets.

O3b Networks today announced an agreement to provide O3bTrunk services to broadband wireless Internet provider Palau Telecoms. Palau Telecoms will use O3b as their backhaul provider from Palau to the Internet.

The new O3b solution utilizes MEO (Medium Earth Orbit) satellites at much lower altitudes. This means that O3b can offer fiber-like speeds with lower latency supporting new cloud based enterprise and interactive consumer applications.
