HISPASAT, the Spanish satellite communications operator, will launch its TV channel “HISPASAT 4K” during the 2014 NAB Conference held in Las Vegas from April 7 to 10. Its content will be aired unencrypted from the Amazonas satellite 3 to its coverage area of Central and North America.

HISPASAT has been broadcasting a  Ultra High Definition (UHD) content in Europe since September of 2013, when its European 4K channel was launched in the IBC Conference in Amsterdam. 

EM Solutions, a Brisbane-based designer and manufacturer of broadband satellite communications equipment, was awarded by the Austrailian Minister for Defense a grant under Round 18 of the AUS$ 13 million Capability and Technology Demonstrator (CTD) program to develop the next-generation satellite terminal for ships.

Managed by the Australian Defense Science and Technology Organisation, the CTD program supports Australian industry to develop and demonstrate new technologies that could contribute to Defence capability. 

Boeing  is on track to deliver the world's first all-electric propulsion satellites in late 2014 or early 2015 as it has met key production milestones on its initial 702SP (small platform) satellites. Boeing recently completed static qualification testing, verification and assembly of the primary structures for 702SP inaugural customers ABS and Eutelsat, with the spacecraft scheduled to be launched as a pair in a stacked configuration.

The initial contract was signed in 2012 between Boeing and Satmex. Eutelsat acquired Satmex in January 2014.

Qatar satellite company Es’hailSat, today announced that a Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued for the design and manufacture of the company’s second satellite, Es’hail 2. The new satellite will be positioned at the 26 degrees East hotspot position for TV broadcasting will add to the company’s ability to provide high quality, premium DTH television content across the Middle East and North Africa.

ARABSAT announces the release of a Request for Proposal for the procurement of four new satellites to be designated HS3, HS4, ARB6E and ARB6A. The new satellites will be positioned at three different orbital locations with a vast coverage over Middle-Eastern, African, Asian and European markets with high power DTH payload in Ku bands and Ka spot beams capacities.

Satellite communications specialist Newtec and Airbus Defense and Space have signed an important contract to deploy Newtec’s Dialog platform as the technology of choice for providing global fixed VSAT solutions. In the coming months, new network hubs will be delivered and installed in several teleports serving Enterprise and Government customers, with remote VSAT terminals being deployed all across the globe.

Cobham SATCOM’s SAILOR VSAT antennas have been approved for operation on the existing Ku-band as well as the forthcoming THOR 7 Ka-band satellite from Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc). THOR 7, TSBc’s latest satellite is expected to be launched in Q4, 2014 and is equipped with a Ka band HTS payload. The SAILOR 800 VSAT and SAILOR 900 VSAT have been approved to support Ku band services on the existing THOR fleet. Additionally, SAILOR 900 VSAT will be compatible with THOR 7.  

SatLink Communications Ltd., a teleport, Content Management & HD Playout Center, has today announced that SatLink has been selected by the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency (ERTA) for the global distribution of its ETV news channel. The Ethiopian Government owned television channel, whose broadcasts include news, entertainment, music and sports content, will extend its audience reach across Africa, North America, Europe and the Middle East over SatLink’s Global Satellite and Fiber Network.
