The South Asian market, comprising the countries belonging to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) that include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, is one of the world’s most underserved markets for telecommunications services.  Internet penetration in the region according to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is only 39 percent of the population of nearly two Billion as of 2020.  That’s nearly 1.2 billion unconnected people without access to broadband services.

HISPASAT, the Spanish satellite services and solutions operator and provider of the Red Eléctrica Group, is once again attending the NAB 2022 trade fair this year in Las Vegas to present its new wholesale television solution in an OTT (Over-the-Top) setting. This new service will allow pay television operators, internet service providers (ISPs) and regional content companies to offer their clients a high-quality, multi-screen entertainment service over the internet so they will not need to roll out their own infrastructure.

AvL Technologies has been selected by SES to develop and produce 2.4m X-Y Ka-band transportable antennas to operate with O3b mPOWER, SES’s second-generation medium earth orbit (MEO) constellation. The antennas are now in development and a pre-production prototype is featured in AvL’s booth this week at the SATELLITE 2022 show.

Satellite operator Thaicom, in partnership with SpaceBridge Inc., the OEM designer and manufacturer of VSAT platform, of broadband satellite communications systems technology, and WTD, an Indonesian ISP, allowing for high-speed connectivity anywhere in the Indonesian territory,  announced today the delivery and commissioning of an HTS multiple spot beam (MSB) Ku-band broadband VSAT network. Mission Microwave Technologies, LLC, a manufacturer Gallium Nitride (GaN) based Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) has confirmed the initial production orders for high power SSPAs in support of SES O3b mPOWER gateways. The order follows nearly three years of work between the companies to implement this forward-looking technology into the O3b mPOWER system.
