A new study of the online content viewing behaviour of Filipino consumers, has found that 49% access streaming piracy websites or torrent sites. The levels of piracy went as high as 53% within the 25-34 age demographic. The survey commissioned by the Asia Video Industry Association’s Coalition Against Piracy (CAP) and conducted by YouGov, found that 47% of consumers who accessed piracy sites cancelled their subscriptions to both local and international content services.

Worldwide pay-TV market growth has slowed over the past few years due to the shift from video consumption to online streaming. The COVID-19 pandemic is further accelerating the cord cutting trend, resulting in higher pay-TV churn in many markets.  Global tech market advisory firm, ABI Research, forecasts that the worldwide pay-TV market will see a slight decline from 2019 to reach a 1.07 billion subscriber base in 2020.

New resarch from Digital TV Researc shows that global Pay TV revenues are down while subscriptions are up. Global Pay TV revenues peaked in 2016 at US$ 202 billion. Revenues will fall to US$ 152 billion in 2025. This is lower than 2010’s US$ 175 billion - despite the number of pay TV subscribers rising by 345 million between 2010 and 2025. Revenues fell by US$ 9 billion in both 2018 and 2019.
