The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) and Global VSAT Forum (GVF) announced a number of meetings and initiatives relating to satellite interference at IBC. On Thursday 6th September, IRG and GVF are organising a Eutelsat-sponsored meeting to discuss value-added services, that may be enabled by the Space Data Assocation. The meeting will be hosted in the Holiday Inn, Amsterdam from 1-5pm.

The results of Ericsson ConsumerLab's annual study - presented in the TV & Video Consumer Trend Report 2012 - reveal that social TV is becoming a mass-market phenomenon. Sixty-two percent of consumers use social media while watching TV on a weekly basis, an increase of 18 percentage points in one year. By gender, 66 percent of women engage in this behavior, compared to 58 percent of men. Twenty-five percent of consumers use social media to discuss what they are watching while they are watching it.

New Euroconsult reports shows 7% capacity leasing revenue growth in 2011

Euroconsult’s latest research report, Satellite Communications & Broadcasting Markets Survey, Forecasts to 2021, revealed that 2011 was a good year for FSS operators, with 4% growth in regular transponder capacity, 33% growth in High Throughput Satellite (HTS) capacity, and a $724 million increase for total capacity leasing revenues. Earnings were mostly influenced by increasing capacity demand for video services and rising competition in emerging markets.

Global triple-play subscriptions will reach 400 million by 2017; up by nearly 300 million on the end-2011 total and up by 380 million on the 2007 total, according to a new report from Digital TV Research.

Covering 80 countries, the 308-page Triple-Play Forecasts report forecasts that the Asia Pacific region will contribute 257 million of the 2017 total; up by more than 200 million on the end-2011 total. China alone will have 193 million triple-play subscribers by 2017 (with only 39 million recorded at end-2011) – or 48% of the global total.
