Within the last few weeks, it has been reported that the construction of no less than three undersea cables along the east coast of Africa has commenced or nearly so.

Russian Telecommunication Satellite Express-AM33 Successfully Launched

Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazahkstan, January 28, 2008.-- At 0:18 a.m. GMT, the Russian telecommunication satellite Express-AM33 was successfully launched at the Baikonur Space Center. The satellite was placed at its orbital location at 96.5 degrees East.
