Touching the Future at IBC 2014

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, August 21, 2014--IBC Content Everywhere is a new series of global events that acknowledge that IP-connected smartphones, tablets and personal computers are altering the way that we produce and consume media. The events will cover rich media production, devices, apps, digital marketing, social media, content personalisation, big data, cloud services, second screens, investment and much more. And they are truly global, the initial three events spanning Europe, MENA and LATAM, with the latter two taking place in Dubai in January 2015 and Sao Paulo later the same year.

The inaugural IBC Content Everywhere Europe takes place during IBC2014 and will also mark the debut of Touch & Connect. Using the same near-field communications technology used by banks for contactless payments and travel cards such as London’s Oyster, Touch & Connect is a fast and eliable way to exchange contact details or information by touch alone. Devices can be touched together to swap contact details, or can be touched to a ‘Tag’ to collect information from an exhibitor.

One of the places visitors can do this is at the Download Wall, part of the IBC Content Everywhere Hub. Here they can collect brochures, presentations, white papers, data sheets and other marketing materials using their devices and view everything they have collected in their IBC Content Everywhere Touch & Connect Portal. The Hub also houses a demonstration stage featuring both technology demonstrations from the cutting-edge exhibitors and editoriallyindependent and extremely topical panel discussions.

IBC Content Everywhere is also extended geographically through the show and temporally through the Touch & Connect Portal. Visitors to the IBC Content Everywhere Workflow Solutions Theatre in Hall 9 will find a presentation theatre housing case studies from leading suppliers in this fast evolving area, while the IBC Content Everywhere Cloud Solutions Theatre in Hall 3 will consist of ‘free-to-attend’ master class sessions exploring the very latest cloud solutions. Each person’s Touch & Connect Device gives access to the Touch & Connect Portal, a gateway to a global community that will be active all year round.

Touch & Connect is an example of a real advance in technology, this is also a theme reflected in the IBC Conference ‘Advances in Technology’ stream where more examples of technological changes at all stages and all levels of the industry are demonstrated. This stream is also home to the highly respected and peer-reviewed Technical Papers & Posters Programme, and feature major contributions from the people and organisations working at the leading edge of innovation.

As you would expect, the range of subjects that the stream covers is suitably vast. From latest advances in archiving, to developments in high dynamic range imaging; from the near future roadmap for broadcasting to mobiles, on to developments in 3D audio, from the rise of social media and second screen technologies, to arguments over whether to implement Ultra HD now or wait for Phase 2 (a hot topic given the EBU’s recent statement on the matter), these are the technologies that will shape the future of the industry like no other. And to understand them, and the impact they will have on the industry and even society at large, you need to be at IBC2014.
