Finalists Announced at HISPASAT 4K International Film Festival

Madrid, Spain, November 2, 2015–At a press conference held this morning in Madrid, the finalists of the HISPASAT 4K International Film Festival were announced. The festival is one of the first film competitions in the world to exclusively feature short films shot and post-produced in 4K. The thirteen finalists are:

  • FEMME, by Beatriz Mínguez de Molina (Spain, 2015, 4’50’’)
  • JOSÉ ALFREDO, by Eduardo Chapero-Jackson (Spain, 2015, 16’ 30’’) 
  • LAST MEMORY, by Juan Luis Moreno Somé (Spain, 2015, 9’)  
  • MARINA, by Álex Montoya (Spain, 2010, 13’39’’)
  • MARTES Y SOMBRAS, by Sergio Diez (Spain, 2014, 10’)
  • MODERNIDAD, by Roberto Barba (Peru, 2014, 16’) 
  • NOS PRIMAVERA SOUND 2014 4K EXPERIENCE, by Joana Domingues and Julio Llorente (Portugal, 2015, 8’24’’) 
  • OSCILLATION, by Dídac Gimeno (Spain, 2014, 8’)
  • POR ESTO NO TENGO HERMANOS, by Paco Cavero (Spain, 2014, 13’)
  • THE DRESS, by Max Weissberg (U.S., 2015, 10’) 

A total of 72 short films from 11 different countries were submitted to the first edition of this ground-breaking festival. The call for entries was open to films produced in any country, in any genre, with a maximum length of 20 minutes and shot and post-produced in 4K.

The five winning films will be announced at the closing night ceremony, held on November 12, 2015 at the Callao City Lights cinema in Madrid. During the ceremony, the audience will be able to view the award-winning films in 4K, as well as the premiere of a short film on El Rastro directed by Rosa Ofelia García and produced by RTVE, shot and post-produced exclusively in Ultra High Definition (UHD).  

Two round table discussions will also be held on November, 12 at the Palacio de la Prensa in Madrid, in which a group of leading experts will analyze the present and future of Ultra High Definition. The talks will be open to the public.

The Spanish satellite communications operator HISPASAT, leader in distribution of content in Spanish and Portuguese, organised this international festival with the aim of promoting the creation and screening of audiovisual content recorded in 4K, or Ultra High Definition (UHD), the latest technological revolution in the audiovisual sector.
