AT&T Closes DirecTV Acquisition

Dallas, Tex., July 24, 2015--AT&T said it has officially closed on its (NYSE: T) US$ 49 billion acquisition of DirecTV (NASDAQ: DTV) following the US' Federal Communications Commission's  approval of the transaction. The newly combined company will become  the largest Pay TV provider in the United States and the world.

Technicolor to Acquire Cisco's STB business for €550m

Paris, France, July 23, 2015--Technicolor has entered into an exclusive agreement with Cisco to acquire its customer premises equipment (CPE) business for €550 million in a cash and stock transaction. The acquisition includes all of Cisco’s cable modem and set-top box businesses.

C-COM Revenues Down, But Continues to be Profitable

Ottawa, Canada, July 14, 2015–C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. (TSXV: CMI), a global provider of mobile auto-deploying satellite antenna systems, announced today financial results for its second quarter ended May 31, 2015. The company has generated revenues of CDN$ 3,101,579 and a net after tax profit of CDN$ 313,201 or 1 cent per share. This compared with revenues of CDN$ 3,754,738 and a net after tax profit of 782,188 or 2 cents per share as reported in 2014, representing a decrease of 17.4% and 60% respectively.

Cape Canaveral, Fla., June 29, 2015--An unmanned SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket exploded about two minutes after liftoff from Florida on Sunday, June 28 at 10:21 am EST. The launch failure destroyed a cargo ship carrying about 2,477 kgs. of supplies bound for the International Space Station.

 

Intense Set-top Box Market Consolidation Not Over

Scottsdale, Ariz., Jun 22, 2015--​ARRIS’ acquisition of Pace created the largest set-top manufacturer, with 22% worldwide market share of the set-top box market. ARRIS is about three times larger than most competitors including EchoStar, Technicolor, Cisco, and Humax. Set-top semiconductor leader Broadcom was also acquired by relative newcomer Avago, an acquisition not directly impactful to the set-top market, but a sign of the significant consolidation that will continue to impact the market in the next few years.
