The New Webinar Epoch?

London, UK, July 2, 2020--With the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the last major ice age began the current (official) geological epoch – the Holocene. It is argued across the science community that the Holocene has, in reality, given way to the Anthropocene – the (proposed) new geological epoch dating from the beginnings of significant human impact on Earth’s geology and ecosystems, including, but not limited to, anthropogenic climate change.

ConnecTechAsia 2020 Now a Virtual Event

Singapore, June 3, 2020–Informa Markets today announced that ConnecTechAsia - Asia’s leading Infocomm Media and Technology event organised in partnership with Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA),  will be held on a virtual platform during the same dates, 29 September to 1 October 2020. This shift to a virtual event is in response to the dynamic situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, where travel and physical restrictions are still in effect globally. 

IBC 2020 Cancelled

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, May 18, 2020--IBC2020 has been cancelled due to concerns for exhibitor and attendee safety and the ability to deliver an event of the quality expected of IBC. IBC2020 was due to take place 11-14 September in Amsterdam, but with many countries in Europe still in lockdown, IBC chief executive Michael Crimp said there were “many unknowns.”

ITU Leads Global Efforts to Commemorate World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Geneva, Switzerland, May 14, 2020-- World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) marks the anniversary of the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on 17 May 1865, when the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris. The theme of this year's World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is “Connect 2030: ICTs for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."

WSBW Rescheduled to November 9-12,2020

Paris, France, April 28, 2020--Euroconsult announched that the World Satelltie Business Week (WSBW) has been rescheduled to November 9-12, 2020.  Original shceduled to be held in Paris in September, the organizers cited the "ongoing related dynamics" as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic as one the reasons for the postponement.

Responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic: GVF Member Services

NAB Launches NAB Express

Washington, D.C., March 20, 2020--The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has decided not to hold the NAB show this year and instead announced the launched of NAB Show Express to launch in April 2020. This digital experience will provide a conduit for exhibitors to share product information, announcements and demos, as well as deliver educational content from the original selection of programming slated for the live show in Las Vegas, and create opportunities for the community to interact virtually.

A Truncated Satellite 2020 Portends Turbulent Times for the Industry

Washington, D.C. March 19, 2020--The industry's premier show, Satellite 2020 held from March 9-11 in Washington D.C., was almost a surreal experience. I don’t know the precise numbers, but from walking around the show floor, I would guess that attendance was down by 30-50%.  There were large gaps where booths should have been.
